McWilliam - 1992 Tabbed In TablEdit By: Steve J. McWilliam - 1998 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Written by Ian Jesse for a guitar workshop at Whitby Folk Festival. Inspired by the sea-gulls wheeling around his guest-house room window. He had the top-most room in a three storey house, overlooking the town and the bay. Play with Capo at the 7th fret. This arrangement is as played by: Steve J. McWilliam. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Words (as at 1991) & Info: Guest-House Blues - by: Ian Jesse, written in the Autumn of 1991 at the Whitby Folk Festival as a result of attending a song-writing workshop. Played in the key of 'G' with the guitar in 'Dropped G' tuning with a Capo on the 7th fret. Instrumental: Introduction. 1. Holed up in a six by ten guest-room at the top Wide awake with a belly full of beer Its lonely out on the road, it feels as if my home Must be a thousand miles from here. Refund my donation, RSPB, those damned seagulls Don't give two hoots about me. 2. Slumber, I'm begging you, please won't you rescue me It's time for some peaceful sweet dreams Just can't cope with the late night shift in the room next door Hard at it, on overtime it seems. There ought to be law against it. It sounds like a crime. No one should be allowed to have that good a time. Instrumental: Verse. 3. Wish I was right back there in good old home-sweet-home Tucked-up in my own bed right now. I'd give up fortune and fame, if they were mine to give Just to be free from this row. Never thought I'd say it but that grass looks quite green Back in the bad old days of the nine to five routine. Instrumental: Ending. --- OOO --- OOO --- OOO --- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Words (as at 1997) - the words had altered as the song was sung over the years: 1. Laid out in number 8, a small room at the top, Still awake, with a belly full of beer. Fed-up of life on the road, homesick and alone, The singer's lot's not quite as it appears. And you can refund my donation, R.S.P.B., Those rowdy seagulls don't give two hoots about me ! 2. Slumber, I'm begging you: Please hurry up and rescue me ! It's time for some peaceful, sweet dreams. I can't cope with the couple next door, energetic to say the least, Trying for the record it seems. There ought to be some law against it, it sounds like a crime, No-one should be allowed to have that good a time ! 3. Wish I was miles from here, back at home sweet home, Tucked up in my own bed right now. If only I'd found fortune and fame, it'd be a different tale, And I wouldn't have to tolerate this row. I never thought I'd say it, but, the grass is looking green, Back in the 'bad old days' of the 9 to 5 routine. --- OOO --- OOO --- OOO --- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- steve.mcwilliam@btinternet.com http://www.stevemcwilliam.co.uk/guitar/index.htm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TablEdit - the best tablature editing software for fingerstyle guitarists. http://www.tabledit.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------c0w"'.3 %).38
